The Tale of the Scale: An Odyssey of Invention by Solly Angel,
In the mid-1980s, Solly Angel had a technological mini-vision. He saw in his mind's eye a quarter-inch thick personal scale weighing a pound--a travel scale--and he decided to make it a reality, to bring it to market. This is a rare first-person account of the process of invention and design as it unfolds in the remaking of the familiar bathroom scale.

Letter scale - A letter scale is a weighing scale used for weighing letters in order to determine the correct amount of postage. Until the 1990s most letter scales were mechanical, but today electronic scales are the most common.

Spring scale - A spring scale (or spring balance) is a weighing scale often used to measure force, such as the force of gravity exerted on a mass or the force of a person's grip or the force exerted by a towing vehicle. This force is commonly measured in newtons or pounds-force.

Scale test car - A scale test car is a type of railroad car in maintenance of way service. Its purpose is to calibrate the weighing scales used to weigh loaded railroad cars.
